Valley depicts the urban landscape of Shenzhen, which grew from a fishing village into a sprawling city now known as the Silicon Valley of China. The painting centres on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, now the eight largest in the world.
The Shenzhen Stock Exchange is based in the mega-city of Shenzhen otherwise known as the Silicon Valley of China that has developed within 15 years. It is one of two stock exchanges operating independently in the People's Republic of China, the other being the larger Shanghai Stock Exchange. Currently it is the 8th largest in the world with it’s neighbour in Hong Kong being 7th. China is proposing to dissolve the border between HK and Shenzhen heralding further accelerated changes between the two cities and the questions of what home is.
