The cowboys in Black Sun personify the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Conquest, War, Famine and Death) who, in St. John's Book of Revelations 6:1-8, herald the divine apocalypse and the Last Judgment. The raging bulls allude to the American 'pioneering spirit', an essential element in the nation's history of war and conquests. In financial terms, a 'bull' also refers to a market in which prices are rising.
